Amari Spievey

Pros

Cons

Overall

Amari Spievey has all the talent to become a shut down corner at the next level, and at the very least a reliable starter. He is very good in man coverage using his fluid hips and short area burst to stick with receivers. Spievey has good ball skills, using his long arms to bat down passes and get interceptions when available. He has good football IQ and does a good job reading receivers, and understanding what opposing offenses are trying to do. Spievey is fearless in run support and willing to be aggressive in stepping up on the ball carrier. What hurts Spievey is that he doesn't have the long range speed needed to trail faster receivers on deep routes, and often loses a step with his man coming out of his back pedal, needs to get lower, and get his hips around quicker. In most drafts Spievey would be projected to go much higher, but this years draft is very deep at cornerback, and he falls somewhere into the second tier of guys after Joe Haden, should get picked in the late second to early third round.
