2011 NFL Mock Draft

Picks 1-16

#17) Carolina Panthers- Greg Romeus (DE Pittsburgh)
Carolina knew that Julius Peppers was not going to come back to Carolina and went out and drafted Everrette Brown. He is still developing, but they could still use somebody opposite of him to help apply pressure. Romeus is one of the better run defending defensive ends in the draft. He also uses his quickness and power to beat tackles and get to the quarterback.
#18) Atlanta Falcons- Bruce Carter (OLB North Carolina)
The Falcons have a big hole at defensive end, but as of right now there really isn't anybody worth this spot. But they can get a great value with Carter who could step into their strongside linebacker spot and give them a solid trio of young linebackers.  Carter is very strong and has great range. This should allow him to take on blockers in the running game and run with tight ends in the passing game.
#19) Philadelphia Eagles- Ras-I Dowling (CB Virginia)
Philly traded away starting corner Sheldon Brown and didn't address the position in the draft. Now they have to rely on veteran players who are coming off of injuries or are not starting material. Dowling is a big physical corner that has the fluid hips and the speed to cover receivers. The Eagles like to play man and leave their corners on islands and that should suit Dowling well.
#20) San Francisco 49ers- Von Miller (DE/OLB Texas A&M)
San Francisco hasn't had much of a pass rush the past couple of years. Manny Lawson has been an underachiever for most of his career and Ahmad Black came out of no where to put up some good numbers. They liked what they saw in Black to not pursue anybody in the draft. But if Lawson cannot produce or Black doesn't have a repeat for the entire season, they will be looking. Miller played a hybrid role last year for the Aggies lining up all over the field helping him lead the nation in sacks. The Aggies will be switching to the 3-4 this year so it will be interesting to see how Miller sacks up
#21) Cincinnati Bengals- Deandre McDaniel (Safety Clemson)
Cincinnati was very interested in Earl Thomas last year and would have taken him if he was available to them, however he wasn't and they went into a different direction. They still need a free safety to cover the middle of the field and McDaniel would be an excellent addition. He has great range and even better ball skills.
#22) New England Patriots- Rahim Moore (Safety U.C.L.A)
New England made out pretty good by getting two first round picks and could use this one on upgrading their secondary. Moore is a big play threat who has great ball skills.  He has good size, but is always around the ball like Earl Thomas. The Patriots could use some help at safety where Brandon Meriweather hasn't been the impact player they thought they had.
#23) Houston Texans- Jared Crick (DT Nebraska)
The Texans have been continuing to build their defense though the draft. Crick would be a good fit with them. Crick has been overshadowed by Suh last year, but he is very talented and will be able to show off his skills this year. There have been some scouts that like Crick, he is very versatile, can play two gaps and engage with defenders with the ability to shed and attack the ball. Or he could be a one gap penetrator accelerating up-field and disrupting the opponents backfield.
#24) Indianapolis Colts- Matt Reynolds (OT B.Y.U)
The Colts are moving towards a power running team and looking for lineman that are physical in the running game. Charlie Johnson did a nice job at left tackle last year, but isn't a long term player for them. Reynolds is young, but has been solid player for BYU helping protect the blindside for Max Hall the past two years.
#25) Miami Dolphins- Mark Ingram Jr (RB Alabama)
This is probably Ronnie Brown's last year in Miami. Look for them to add a running back that is tough and can handle the load. Last year's Heisman winner fits that bill.  He is big and strong to get the tough yards, but still has the speed to get to the corner and get the big plays. Possibly the best thing about him is his balance, you have to wrap him up to tackle him.
#26) Green Bay Packers- Jeremy Beal (DE/OLB Oklahoma)
There was word that the Packers could be in the market for a rush linebacker to fill the void that Aaron Kampman had left. But they didn't, so and are going to rely on Brad Jones, and it would be wise to get somebody to help him out. Beal has good speed and quickness that should allow him to translate to a two point stance.
#27) San Diego Chargers- Curtis Brown (CB Texas)
Antonio Cromartie fell out of favor with the organization and was shipped off to New York. They replaced him with Nathan Vasher whose skills have been depleted because of a rash of injuries. The Chargers could really use somebody to pair opposite of Jammer. Brown is very talented and was one of the Longhorns top corners the past couple of years. He has good quickness and the ability to stick with defenders in man to man.
#28) Dallas Cowboys- Jerrell Powe (NT Mississippi)
Dallas is a team with very few holes at this point so it is tough to project who they will take, so we give them the B.P.A on the defensive line. Jay Ratliff is playing at a pro-bowl level, but could be even better playing outside with a big hulking nose tackle inside.
#29) New York Jets- Allen Bailey (DE Miami)
The Jets were very interested in getting Jared Odrick last year, but he went before they could pick. The defensive ends they have right now were holdovers from Herm Edward's 4-3 teams and are not the big bodied blocker eaters that you want in the 3-4. Bailey would be a good fit. The defensive tackle at Miami is very strong and has played both end and tackle for the Canes. He can bring his strength and versatility to the team and give their linebackers some added help.
#30) Minnesota Vikings- Deunta Williams (Safety North Carolina)
Minnesota is another team that was targeting a free safety in the draft. They wanted somebody that could cover the middle of the field and react in the passing game. Their current starter Madieu Williams cannot do that well. Major Wright and Nate Allen were thought be targets, but they went in other directions. After another year of blown coverage's, look for them to address the position. Williams is another one of the possible five or six North Carolina defenders that could go in the first round. He has good range and explodes to the ball.
#31 Baltimore Ravens- Chimdi Chekwa (CB Ohio State)
Baltimore had possibly the best draft of any team last year, they got great value and address some of their biggest issues. However they didn't go after a cornerback. They feel pretty confident in Fabian Washington and Lardarius Webb bouncing back from injuries. But look for them to address the position in this draft.  There should be a good number of corners worth high picks and they can get good value again. Chekwa is very physical and can match up to defenders using his speed and quickness.
#32 New Orleans Saints- Stephen Paea (DT Oregon State)
The Super Bowl champions should continue to play at a high level again. One issue they did have was at the NT spot in their 4-3 next to Sedric Ellis. They did draft Al Woods last year, but he isn't anything more than a depth player. Paea is very good in gap control, but still has the ability to create problems in the backfield with his good quickness and fire off the ball.
