Former Utah Cornerback Conroy Black is one of the more underrated players in this years' draft, and will get picked a lot higher than people expect. He was gracious enough to take some time to talk to us about his pre-draft prep, his career at Utah, and his Future in the NFL. Great Interview, check it out!
Conroy Black: Yes, being under the radar has surely given me an extra drive, wanting to prove people wrong, because I know the type of player that I can become. It's a blessing to still be in this position, so I'm just mostly enjoying the experience right now.
Draft Geek: What has your journey to the NFL been like, coming out of Fullerton College, and what made you chose Utah over some of the other Pac 12 schools?
Conroy Black: My journey to the NFL has been one of hard work, and just belief in myself, because it has not been easy at all, but I'm blessed to be in this position. I ended up choosing Utah because I felt like it had a great defense scheme, and I loved that they played a lot of man, and thought that was the best school for me at the time.
Draft Geek: What's your greatest football moment to date? Is there a game that stands out to you, either as a team or as an individual?
Conroy Black: My greatest football moment to date, was the play I made, grabbing an INT versus Arizona. Also, the game I had against UCLA where I was named player of the game, and our Bowl win, would be my three greatest football moment to date.
Draft Geek: How would you describe your game to someone who has never seen you play?
Conroy Black: I would describe my game as being someone who loves the game of football, and someone who plays the game with a lot of passion.
Draft Geek: What do you consider to be your greatest strength on the field, and what would you most like to improve on?
Conroy Black: I think my greatest strength on the field are my cover skills, and my ability to play with any receiver of any type, on an island. I would like to improve my overall technique, as you always become a more consistent as a tackler.
Draft Geek: What goals have you set out to achieve in the NFL?
Conroy Black: I have set out many goals to accomplish in the NFL, which include becoming a starting Cornerback, and being a Pro Bowl corner at some point in my career. Once I do that, I can focus on more goals to accomplish.
Draft Geek: What is an NFL Franchise going to be getting with Conroy Black in terms of off the field, and personality?
Conroy Black: An NFL franchise will be getting a person that's all about family and football. Someone who all he does is football, all day, everyday, and someone who has a down to earth personality, and always willing to learn and help someone else.
Draft Geek: Other than football, what sports do you like to watch? Any favorite teams/players?
Conroy Black: First off, all I watch is Football, but I also like to watch basketball, and Track and Field when I get a chance to. My favorite basketball team is the Miami Heat, and two of my favorite athletes are Dwayne Wade and Usain Bolt.
Draft Geek: O.K, We'll let you off with a couple soft ones. When you get your first paycheck what do you plan on buying?
Conroy Black: With my first paycheck, I plan on getting my mother whatever it is that she needs, whether it includes buying her a new car ,or helping her with the mortgage.
Draft Geek: What will you be doing on Draft Weekend? Any special plans?
Conroy Black: On draft weekend I plan on watching the draft at my mother's house with my family. Afterwards, I have no special plans, but probably have a little party to celebrate with family and friends.
