Carlos Hyde epitomizes the traditional Big Ten running back, taking on the form of a new-age Ron Dayne, Hyde tore apart the Big Ten in 2013, rushing for 1521 rushing yards and 15 touchdowns.
Hyde is a throwback running back in the way he’s big, physical, takes defenders head-on, and drives through would-be tacklers. While Hyde most often displays his physicality in his running style, he also possesses good feet and vision.
An exceptional athlete for his size, Hyde was able get to the edge and break off some big runs in college but might not be able to do that at the next level. In addition, Hyde will not find himself playing in a read-option offense where the quarterback is just as much of a threat running the ball as he is.
Hyde was suspended for an off the field incident in 2013 however Hyde reacted to it as well as I've ever seen a college athlete. He seemed truly remorseful and his turnaround was clearly evident on and off the field.
Hyde is in the mix to be the first back off the board with Ka'Deem Carey and Tre Mason and should find himself a home somewhere in the first 40 picks.
